Employee Spotlight: Michael Askew
In case you didn’t notice, here at Carpet Tech we love our employees! We are proud to call our team members family, and we truly believe that we work with the best in West Texas. Each month, we’ll be spotlighting a new member of our work family. Today, we’re happy to introduce Michael Askew. Michael works in Lubbock, Texas, as a Director for our sister company, Bug Tech.
When Michael isn’t helping our customers solve pest problems in their homes and at their businesses, you can find him spending quality time with his wife and their three girls. A bit of a renaissance man, Michael has many talents. He enjoys playing the bass guitar, shooting hoops with his girls, and is very involved in his local church. From smoking or grilling meats to boiling crawfish, Michael also loves cooking in his free time.
When we say our employees are like family, we mean it! And for Michael, the feeling is mutual. He calls his team his second family. In the four years he’s worked on the Bug Tech team, Michael has seen it all. He loves the ability to keep learning on the job and always works to get better at what he does.
THE WEST TEXAS COCKROACH
Did you know that Texas has more cockroaches than any other state? Sad, but true. Roaches are easily one of the most feared pests for any home or business owner. West Texas roaches aren’t as large as those found in wetter climates, but they do thrive in our hot weather and mild winters.
Cockroaches can affect anyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re a student in the dorms or if you own a multi-story mansion. Even worse, an infestation can happen overnight. Female German cockroaches lay up to 50 eggs at a time. Left untreated, they can take over an entire home or building quickly. And as you can imagine, that’s not pretty.
DEALING WITH AN INFESTATION
We asked Michael what it’s like to deal with an infestation of cockroaches and he had quite the story. Warning: if you’re squeamish, you may not want to read it. And if you want to prevent roaches from entering your home, better call Bug Tech today.
“There was a time where my service manager and I were doing a German roach treatment. It was an extremely bad infestation. Roaches were everywhere throughout this small house. We began our treatment, and about 5 mins into it, the roaches started really moving. They were running everywhere, jumping on us from the cabinets, flying everywhere, falling off the ceiling. We were freaking out the whole time while trying to be professional. It was a tough task. Having German roaches fall on you and climbing on you, freaking out while trying to look cool.”
PREVENTION IS KEY
Michael advises homeowners to call Bug Tech after spotting even a single roach and to skip the DIY pest control. Chemicals in consumer available foggers and sprays aren’t as effective on roaches and infestations require the assistance of a certified pest control company.
As a home or business owner, it’s a smart idea to regularly treat your home with a general pest control service from Bug Tech. This can prevent roaches and other pests from entering your home or building in the first place.
